About us

The Marulu team is based in Marninwarntikura Women's Resource Centre in Fitzroy Crossing in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. 

Marulu is a Bunuba word meaning 'precious worth nurturing'. The Marulu Strategy is a community driven response to the high prevalence of FASD and Early Life Trauma (ELT) in the Fitzroy Valley. Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) is a major issue in Fitzroy Valley communities, as well as across the Country for all children affected by alcohol in utero, their families and Communities.

Across all areas of the organisation, we are engaged in numerous community development initiatives designed to reconstruct a better future for families and communities of the Fitzroy Valley. Community Leaders in the Kimberley are developing a comprehensive strength based response to these complex challenges, that is refined and extended overtime  - the Marulu Strategy. 

The Marulu Strategy is a collective effort between community leaders, community organisations, service providers, governments, research institutions and a broad range of experts from different disciplines working together to design the best ways to tackle FASD and Early Life Trauma (ELT) through prevention, education, diagnosis, capacity building, service enhancements and therapeutic family supports.

Together Fitzroy Valley community organisations create dynamic partnerships with essential partners to progress this work by accessing the best resources, advice and expertise from national and international leaders in the field.

 The goal of the Marulu Strategy is to ‘make FASD history’, as FASD is 100 % preventable and 100% permanent.
